Quick LOA Questions Volume 17 – Negative Energy, Resistance and Thoughts vs. Emotions

I thought it was about time for another one of my quick and dirty Q&A posts. For those of you with short attention spans, you’re welcome. :P

Where does the negative energy go?

Awesome Ismael asks: “I wanted to know since energy doesn’t go away and it just transfers from one thing to the next, if the world does get more positive (energetically) where does the negative energy go?”

Dear Awesome Ismael,

Let’s say that all the energy in the world is just this static soup, floating all around us. Everything is made of energy, and it’s all just sitting there. With your focus, you decide which of those clumps of energy you allow into your reality. Only the people, places, things and experiences, thoughts, memories, and ideas that match your chosen frequency (the one you’re focusing on), are able to make it into your perception. The other energy is still there, but you’re not aware of it. If it’s too far out of your range, it will seem to no longer exist, to you.

Now, if you begin to change the frequency that you focus on, new “stuff” that matches this vibration will come into your reality, while the old stuff gravitates out. When this happens, the old stuff doesn’t go anywhere, really. It’s still there, just not “active”, unless someone focuses on it. The act of focusing on it makes it active. The more you focus on a certain vibration, the more “stuff” that matches it will appear in your reality. What doesn’t match doesn’t have to go anywhere to be invisible to you.

Clumps of energy can also evolve. Think about this: If one person thinks a thought, that thought will essentially exist forever. If another person then thinks that thought, they will add their unique focus to it and will build upon the foundation of the original thought. They may even combine several existing thoughts into something new. This is how evolution works – we take what is and improve it. We are constantly creating new energy (causing the Universe to expand) by experiencing what is and imagining something new into being. Even if we “create” something that already existed, our own personal perspective, preference and experience will always alter it slightly. We add to the Universe just by existing, experiencing and having a desire to improve upon what is.

Can resistance keep me from manifesting what I want?

Awesome Saurabh asks: “Many LOA teachers say that if you want something and visualize it daily and then take action… it won’t work if you have some negative limiting beliefs in your subconscious mind. So, if I want something and have many negative beliefs around that, it will never manifest in my reality no matter how much I allow it to appear. IS IT TRUE?”

Dear Awesome Saurabh,

If you have a desire and it’s strong enough, it creates momentum. Think of it this way: your desire is pulling you forward toward what you want. The more you want it, the stronger the pull is. Any bits of resistance you have are like obstacles along the way. You still get pulled forward, but you hit those obstacles as you do. Then, you have the chance to overcome (or release) those obstacles. The more you do that, the easier the ride becomes and the faster you can move toward your goal.

If your desire is strong enough, you will eventually reach it, even if you have massive resistance. It’s just going to be a very bumpy ride. The stuff I teach here is designed to make the ride a lot more fun.

If you focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want, you will get it. The resistance will present itself to be released.

Also, just to clarify: “Allowing” means to stop resisting. So, when you allow what you want to come to you, it must. When you’re resisting, or when you have resistance, you’re not allowing.

Are thoughts and emotions the same thing?

Awesome Shaun asks: “Would you spare a few words to describe the difference between thought and emotion in terms of energy, because a friend of mine says they are the same thing, but I’m not so sure he is right.”

Dear Awesome Shaun,

Your friend is wrong. I hope you had a bet going. Here are your definitions:

A thought is a manifestation. When you focus on something (wanted or unwanted), thoughts, memories, ideas and later physical stuff that matches the frequency of what you’re focusing on will be drawn to you. This is what’s at the heart of the Law of Attraction.

An emotion is a biochemical manifestation of your vibrational feedback system. Essentially, there are an infinite number of perspectives available on any given situation. There will always be a perspective that is the highest or broadest one you have access to (not the highest one that can exists. There is no end to that, which is what infinite means). This highest perspective is the one you’d have if all your resistance dropped away right now. The closer your own perspective is to the highest one you have access to, the more “positive” the emotional feedback is. The further removed your focus is from the highest available perspective, the more “negative” the emotional feedback is.

Let me give you an example: Let’s say you and I are looking at a puppy. Now, each of us will have a different perspective – we will focus on the puppy in different ways and attract different thoughts about the puppy to us. The highest possible perspective that each of us has access to will also be different (it’s a very individual thing). Just for the sake of argument, let’s say that I’m focusing on the puppy in such a way that it attracts the thought “I want to smoosh your little face and love you and take you home and hug you and smoosh you some more.” You know, the usual. You’re focusing on the puppy in such a way that it attracts the thought “I want to make puppy stew.”

If the highest thought I could possibly have access to in that moment were to be “I love puppies”, then I’d feel pretty damn good. If I, however, were to think a thought such as “let me make puppy stew”, it would be very painful, given the distance between my highest possible thought and that one.

That same thought (puppy stew) might not feel so bad to you, though, if the highest possible perspective you had access to was “Puppies are irrelevant”, a neutral thought free of resistance but not yet filled with love. In this case, the difference between where you are and where you could be might elicit dark, cynical humor, which could only be masking discontent (or you could be a psychopath. I’d get that checked out, Awesome Shaun. Just saying…).

I hope that helps.

Really nice, Melody, thank you

Only you could make a clear argument with the analogy of smooshing puppy faces vs. puppy stew lol

Love all of these questions and answers, Melody! The bumpy road analogy really works for me. This Spring was bumpy indeed, but all the while the pieces were coming together for the dream.

Hi Melody,

I have read your other posts on resistance but I’m still having trouble working through some resistance in relation to having what I want. I can’t seem to shift it. Sometimes I tell myself I should just give up but I can’t seem to do that either. Do you have any extra tips on releasing resistance?
Thanks. :)

Hi Moonsparkle,

Melody just did a AWESOME post about asking yourself the right questions. I recommend that you try asking yourself ‘the right questions’.

I have been doing this all week and it is opening all of my closed doors. I have a new business and have been struggling with allowing success!!! Now why would I do that since I took the time to start my business, I am passionate about what I do and I can’t wait to go to work everyday. Of course I want to succeed, right?? You would think so, so why am I not allowing it??

So my question to myself is….What if I succeed? I answer this question by journaling all of the wonderful ‘feelings’ I have because my success is here! Or I narrate a fabulous story that I tell my dog(Yes, I talk out loud to him) when we go for our walk in the beautiful outdoors. I am feeling great, my dog is inside out with delight which makes me even more joyful.

Here’s an example of what I say….I am so thrilled with how the renovation turned out at my new office. I love the layout because I planned it and it allows me to function exactly how I want to. My color choices make my space so warm and inviting for all of my new patients. I just love that it has so much light because of all of the big windows…….First time patients have a wonderful first experience at my office. They tell their friends, family and colleagues about me. My phone is ringing off the hook now and I have hired a friendly new receptionist. She shows up to work with a great attitude and a smile on her face. We have a great working relationship. My new patients call back to book their spouse and kids because they loved the one on one attention at my office. It is so great when I am busy. I am so passionate about my job and my patients always comment that they can feel my excitement when they come to see me for treatment…..My patients fell relaxed and comfortable with how I provid treatment. My patients appreciate my gentle touch and are hungry for more. I love making people feel good about their smile!

So, even though everything that I have said in my ‘dream’ has not come true yet, it allows me to attract more of those great thoughts & feelings. It feels so bloody awesome!! Thanks Melody for this technique….huge hugs!

So for you, you could try asking….What if I had no resistance? Or What if I allow all of my greatest dreams to come into my life? Then just start a narration with yourself, your dog etc. State all of the wonderful ‘feelings’ you are having because your dreams have come true. Go on, give it a try, let your resistance go :)

“So, even though everything that I have said in my ‘dream’ has not come true yet, it allows me to attract more of those great thoughts & feelings.”

You are basically saying that feeling grateful and happy doesn’t changes your reality.
I suspected that.
I think it’s all random and luck does exist. Behavior can help, but it’s not all.

Karin July 21, 2013 at 11:58

Feeling grateful and happy does definitely change your reality, it just takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight unfortunately! :)

lili July 21, 2013 at 15:34

Why not? The “teachings” assert reality MUST change when you change inside.

What time’s got to do with it?

It’s just that it doesn’t sound like a law to me.
Gratitude, happiness and letting go may influence your life, but are not infallible. And a law, by definition, never fails.

Hi Denise,

Thank you for your reply. I have read that post about asking better questions and had a go at it but I think I’ll re-read it and try asking more questions now that you’ve brought my attention to it again. :)

I think the problem with me is 1. I have resistance and 2. I don’t believe I can really have these things I want. So, like you suggested I could try asking, What if I had no resistance? What if I allowed these things to come into my life? And What if I really can have these things I want? I like your example about the renovation of your new office. You’re a dentist? I was just thinking about dentists! It really makes a difference if you have a good experience when you go to the dentist and it’s a friendly environment. The one you described sounds great. :)

I talk to my cats too, lol. Maybe I should try telling them stories about my fabulous life! Thanks again for your advice, I’ll try it and see what happens. :)

Puppy Stew! Ha! I’ll go with your thoughts of smooshing and love! You’re the best! Hugs!

Philip Harris July 19, 2013 at 17:57

There really is no such thing as ‘negative energy.’ Just low vibration to high. There is no ‘bad’ energy or good energy. Low vibration is needed to have the perception of a physical reality. So if you’re hit by a rock, very low vibration, it hurts, but the rock isn’t negative or bad energy. Just saying, be careful of adding ‘judgments’ when using words like negative energy. As Mel so often and accurately points out, perception is everything.

Thanks for the reply melody. I’m so gonna love discussing this subject with that friend who is adamant that thoughts and emotions are the same. Once I’ve read the blog about 50 times that is, just to make sure victory is certain.
